HI ALl, some help/advice would be arpeciated i have 2.5 turbo and i currently have a stock oil cooler and the thermostat is fitted, i have ordered a bigger cooler is it safe to remove the thermostat from the filter housing? is this something i should of done from the start? what is the max oil pressure that the engine should have?
i think my oil has been getting too hot as the oil light was on at low revs after a 25mile motorway run

Hi there james, I fear your first port of call is to find out why your oil light is on at low revs. At best it is going to be a faulty pressure switch, the other end of the stick is a bit shitier 
The engine has not long been rebuilt new big end and main bearings and pressure sensor as I had a terminal oil pressure fault before which turned out to be worn/scored bearings, I only think its oil temp related as it was about 25 miles at 80 + then only at idle the light flickered, I'm working on the assumption my previous efforts are still good

What are you thinking, the oil is getting hot and thin and making the oil pressure light come on?

Agreed, unless poorly set up the engine should not be getting too hot on the motorway. It should be running pretty much off boost, with plenty of cooling air.
That light only comes on for 2 reasons, a faulty circuit/switch. Or you actually have low oil pressure.

But surely the oil actually going through the turbo will be extremely hot?

ThAt is what I was hoping the oil getting to hot/thin bringing on the light on idle the oil is 10/40 I think I'll double check that though, max field is right new oil pump and even new oil control valve fitted.
This is why I was questioning the cooler/ thermo stat if the stAt iS needed or not , as I'm not sure how to check the oil is circulating thought the cooler

I have a little more Info the oil I used was 10w40 and I just took the car out no motorway driving mainly town to town and no oil light at all, I know from previous experience that light would be on as soon as the oil thins if there is worn internals. I think that this may back up my theory of the oil getting too hot. I hope.
Do you think the engine oil pressure will exceed 150psi when cold? that is what my oil cooler is tested too and I want to remove the thermo stat in the filter housing, or is there away of testing the thermostat?
