Haha, all for a good reason though ain't it,
mines struggling for grip even in the dry, definatly need some wider rubber,
And some decent suspension

What suspension/tyres you got on at the minute ?

Try some R888's?
or the Yokohama Ao48's
BAGS of grip on those,

the 888's are a road legal track day tyre,

even with the suspension you have now,
put some real good tyres on and you will notice the difference

i'm on the yokohama A048's, and cant wait to scrub them right in.
Ideally I should just keep those for the summer, (dry day tyres) and buy some tyres that are awesome in the wet aswell as the dry,
It's newcastle, it rains every other day

But havnt got a clue what to get, I was thinking about the uniroyal Rainsport 2's, but dont know for sure

I'm not sure about the grip level on the 888's in the wet,

the toyo's are an ok tyre,
but I think once you go over the top with bhp and torque,
they'll just be no good and will spin up just like a budget Nangkang

In my experience r888's are fine in damp and wet as long as there isn't any standing water. Went broadside in a straight line the first time I took them out in then rain. Luckily I didn't hit anything but I needed a change of pants 8O

It's got it's ups and downs,
It's on a downer at the mo :-(

The "Bosch type" 440cc injectors I got from injectortune, are made of Chinese crap,
1 of then failed and had me running round for days trying to find out why the engine was misfiring,

once that was replaced, at the start of the week,

It only went and dropped another one on the same day!!!!! :-x

So iv had to dig deep into the holiday fund and splash out on a spanking new set of Siemens 630cc injectors.

But when it works, it's foooking fast,

Have you spoke to injectortune about this? thats bad news. 8O

Im guessing its getting remapped once the new injectors are in?

To be fair they changed the first one straight away, but now another one dropped on the same day as fitting the replacement one,
im just going to see if they'll take them all back.

It might need a remap in the future,
but with just a few tweaks by the vems guru, they should work for now

Well I'v spoke to injectortune and tbh the outcome is not what i was expecting.

this what I sent to them......

Hi again James mate,

I received the replacement injector, thanks for that,
but unfortunately on the same day I put in the injector,
the car went out and another one broke down : /

so I have decided to pull them all and buy a set of Siemens injectors,
just simply to stop further headaches, breakdowns etc etc

Is there anything that can be done with these 440cc's I bought from you ?

I wouldn't feel too comfortable selling them on as I fear that further breakdown's may be on the cards.

Could you please get back to me with your thoughts.

Thanks,

Craig.

And this Is the reply......

Hello again Craig.

All we can offer is a replacement for any faulty injector. You're welcome to send it back when it suits you.

Regards

James.

So basically it's a fob off,
look's like i'll have to send them the duff injector, get the replacement and sell them on

:-x

I think i need an extra gear.....

there's soooo much power, it's unreal,
I don't have to be at the top end of the rev range all the time, because the power is there constantly,

and in all honesty

I haven't met anything that i can really tussle with, I just keep getting asked..

WTF is that!!

i know what you mean and i had quite a high diff in mine ive got a 3.64 at the mo and the bloody thing just kept going i had to lift off in most cases as i dunno what id hit first the car a mile in front or the top speed lol

the thing that really impressed me with mine is how quick it eats up rd before you have to brake

i came of a junction on the a1 near me i booted 1st 2nd 3rd 4th god knows what i was doing mph wise then i realise shit i had to brake as the roundabout came up that quick its was like 5 miles away lol

I'm mid build for my e30 turbo 325i using the lower compression m20 lump.

I'm aiming for 250 with a t3 (as i have one laying about!) then when i've got enough uprating that small piece of... ya'know..to a bigger and better snail producing max 500. Don't want to run more than that street.

you'll be lucky to get 500 out of a standard m20

dont believe everything you read an m50 will run 500bhp on standard internals due to the 4 valves per cylinder and just better design in head
the yanks and run more bhp due to the car being lhd where they can get a bigger exhaust down to get rid of the gases better as out rhd are limited to the down pipe size due to the steering linkage personally i wouldnt run more than 1 bar on standard internals on a m20 anything more than that youll start breaking things

all head studs do is stop the head from lifting under boost and higher cylinder pressures the engine is still standard if it has studs in it or not

Where am I meant to be looking there?

But no, m50's love boost. Just read this thread and compare the power levels achieved with Ross' results above with the m20.

Couldnt agree more with the above comments,

to try and get 500 brake out of a standard M20, would be disastrous if you just slapped a huge turbo onto the side of the engine

but saying that..

when i was running my M20 2.7 I was also running 180 bhp of direct port nitrous, which worked out at around 400 brake,
i wouldnt take it any further than that, without uprating the pistons/rods etc etc
but then again,
the nitrous wasnt on/in 100% of the time, it was only used now and again,

now with a turbo,

it's a whole different ball game,
the boost is there constantly, which obviously creates more stress on the pistons, rods and everything else,

I dont think a standard M20 could take a whole lot of 4-500 brake over a period of time, without going pop.

that why people who want constant power like that, do it properly, by
uprating everything.

and everything means...
everything!
not only the engine but
brakes, suspension etc etc, basically, the whole car needs to be in tip top condition at 110%

Might have missed it Craig, but what clutch are you using?

I have an unsprung 4 puck at the moment with a standard pressure plate, thinking of using the same centre with a Sachs 618 pressure plate, they seem popular for big power

I should really get round to updating this thread,
the clutch i used at the time of the build held up fine at 1 bar and at 1.3 bar,
but when i upped it to 1.5 bar and the 630cc injectors :D it started slipping,
so i had to upgrade....

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=234476

I've had absolutely zero problems with the set up i have now,

where is your plate from or the make ross?
it could be rated to only a couple of hundred bhp or it could be all good, and might only need the pressure plate....

Nice to see you are running 1.5 bar, that's what I have calculated the compressor map of the turbo to, sits perfectly in the middle of the middle island :D what power are you making at that level?

I might take my chances with the 618 plate and an uprated disc as Gunni seems to recommend that in the thread. I am not sure what make mine is, it just came with the m50 when I bought it.

Saying that, I like the idea of a twin disc clutch, the £600 is a little steep though. Trying to do this on a budget for now!

TBH, I dont know what its running exactly,
but i know for sure its way faster than it was when i was running at 1.3 bar and on the maxed out 440cc injectors,

when i swapped over the injectors it didnt need a "re-mapping session"
Gunni did his magic with the settings and sent a couple of files over to be written to the Vems
to unlock the power,

I'll get it booked in for a RR blast and see whats what (at some point)

and Ross... Budget and turbo build dont go together mate

Haha I know it's not going to be cheap, but for now I'm on a budget. If I want expensive bits it's just going to take longer. Spending the money where it matters though.

Start my degree in September, funds are going to be tight :(

Are you still in contact with Gunni?
