HI all,
I'm considering a turbo up grade which means adding coolant pipes.
It's a m20 engine with a e36 radiator
I was planning to take feed from the cold side of the radiator (I think this is where a fan temp sensor would of been)
I plan to return in through one of the blanked sensor ports in the thermostat housing.
If I have direction of the coolant flow right I think this may work
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

On my extremely slow turbo build i was planning on using the pipes that heat the throttle body.
My memory is a bit hazy but i think one comes from the block near the bulk head and the other goes to the thermostat
If you trace them back on a complete engine you find them easy enough.
What turbo you using? i went for a TD04

I know them coolant pipes you mean I supose it would be simpler and we know it will work.
Is the feed from the block end ? And return to thermomstat?
I'm currently using garret t3/t4e jornal bearing
I can get the same turbo core but with ball bearing I don't know if there will be a massive noticeable difference between them

I think one of the main reasons manufacturers use them is because the water carries on cooling the turbo after shutdown - so no need for turbo timers or gentle running
personally if i was to do it again i wouldn't bother as theres just more plumbing and fixings to buy

That is quite interesting makes me think i could be opening up a bag of worms, but he does have two turbos.
It's almost like he needs to have two separate coolant feeds if it's getting that hot.
Maybe in my case might be better to take a cold feed from the radiator, then t into throttle body coolant pipe to return then your mixing cooled with hot from turbo

Im not to worried about it cooking the engine as its only a lowly 2litre ! - am sure it will be fine with a single turbo too
been building mine for 5/6 years! the bodywork is whats slowing it all down its just such a rust bucket and progress is slow on the drive
