Hi

I have come across a 1980 635csi for sale. Its not cheap but it has had a lot of work done so its in great condition. I currently have an original condition 1989 320i which has had very little work done, is all original and in great condition. I am thinking of either selling the 320i and buying the 635 or keeping the 320i and upgrading the engine to a 2.5 or 2.8.

My query is what is the 635csi like in terms of reliability and cost of maintenance. I find that for the 320i there is an abundance of cheap parts available and its easy to maintain. I am concerned that a 635csi might be a nightmare.

Whichever car I have its going to be a daily driver so I can’t afford to have it in at the mechanics all the time and I don’t have much time available to do things myself.

I am thinking that there is a good reason why the owner of the 635csi has had a lot of work done, is it a sign of things to come.

Thanks
