2004 X5 Help

Hi, my brothers just text me and his X5 is playing up, wont start when warm, The warning message on dash when he turns it of is, Trans Fail Safe turns over but wont stat till its cooled down?
Anyone know much about them, its 3.0 Derv, Im guessing Sensor or Injectors?

Hes had a BMW tech look at it on side, could not diagnose a problem so the lad is taking it into work this week. Car runs perfect just wont start when warm!

i had this with my 530d wouldnt start when warm crank and cam sensors would be a good place to start. Sometimes the diagnostic readers dont pick them up on M57 and N57 engines which is a ball ache.

Crank sensor.

It turned out to be ECU, had to send away and referb. Goes well again.
