Does anyone know the size of the 6 rivits used on the round unit on the front left hand side of the engine bay.Its some sort of air unit and its a common fault that the rivits brake and the unit leaks.

Yup, that's the secondary air pump. It pumps air into the exhaust to get the cats up to operating temps faster and lean out cold start emissions.
It is very known to pop a few rivets and make a lot of noise on a cold startup. I used some long bolts to fix the missus when hers went.
