Hi,

I have recently come across the opportunity to purchase a 68 Rolls Silver shadow in need of resto for what i believe to be very cheap for what it is.

Does anybody here know much about them? I know nothing about Rolls Royces, like what to look out for and common issues. The seller tells me that all the brake lines need replacing which from what I've heard is common.

Hes the 3rd owner from new and has alot of history. Has original paint but will need repainting.

Can anyone advise me on what they go for these days? I've had a look and they seem to vary from £7500 to as high as £50k and they were all 70s models.

Thanks in advance. :D

Rot, expensive brake overhaul if screwed, aluminium to steal issues and if you think E30 sills are expensive to replace then a RR will be an eye-opener and will drain your bank balance even faster then a dodgy Russian bride/hooker.

Is it a 6.2 or 6.7?

Thanks for the reply,

Its a Shadow I (6.2) which from what I've read is the less desirable over the Shadow II (6.7)

He did say the brake lines need replacing and that the system right now is empty due to leaks. If its just brake lines i'd be ok cause i could do that myself.

Sills looked to be small patches of surface rust, no holes. I poked and prodded as much as i could.

Its missing the sheep skin carpet. Have no idea where I'd get one.

I am smitten over the car, not gona lie. But i feel I'd be taking a risk if i had to put more into it than its worth when restored.

From a sheep?

*no help at all :P

Do the maths how much is the car how much for the work, get on to a RR forum read up etc etc would be a great car to waft around in but as you know any old car is a money pit but a RR is a money pit with expensive parts. Could you break it for parts if it doesn't work out?

I am not trying to talk you out of it but look at it with a clear head but as you know we have all ignored sensible advice and followed our hearts lol.

Why is the owner selling did he realise it would cost a lot to restore or is he just selling up?

I'll get the shears out. :P

Owner is selling as he has too many projects at the moment, and hes strapped for cash.

Hes currently rebuilding a 2 rotor 13B rx7 and strapping on a Greddy turbo, he also has a 77 mustang cobra II and 2 jet turbine engines he looking to rebuild.

Seems like a genuine chap, and an honest reason for sale.
I suppose i could break it for parts but not sure how sought after they are.

I'll get onto one the rolls forums like ya said and get some info.

Thanks SexyLady.

You will never get your money back. Cost of restoring on of them will far outweigh the selling price. Its a case of depending on how cheap it is. Sell it on as is without spending any money or breaking it.
