Hi

I am looking to find a ECU for a T4 Transporter 2.5 2001 engine code APL but I am finding it impossible to find one anywhere, does anyone know what the issue may be or if it is interchangeable with any other ecus? anyone been through this?

Have you got anywhere local that does ECU testing/repairing?

I've just had a similar issue with an Audi A4, ended up buying an ECU from Audi and then had to have a specialist programme it.

What makes you think the ecu is at fault? They're very robust units.

Apart from the ones that fail. A mate has a 2005 T5 and the ECU went tits up - as any modern ECU can. That was 4 years ago and VW were the only source of an ECU.

this is it, it has just failed and from what i understand the one i am looking for is really hard to get hold of.

the funny thing is I actually had one in the van and sold it on flee bay to someone in Germany!! who said he couldn't get one for love nor money,,,i feel like a right t it for selling it.it was in the box and everything. Something must of went wrong with these all over the gaff...they dont seem to be anywhere, Im trying to see if the stealers will have one and they guy said he will email me ?? this seems like one elusive ecu ...lets see the hunt continues....

all vw and audi ecu are interchangeable to a point, get the number of the ecu and put it in ebay, ignoring the letters at the end.

the letters are the software version or map that's on that ecu. if you google the number from your ecu you'll see what i mean.

so you could get away with buying a cheaper non desirable ecu and have your map programed onto it, original maps are free and can be downloaded at places like ECUconnections.

also most ecu's that look the same, are the same make (bosch/siemens/digi) and have the same physical appearance i.e the plugs ect.. are the same ecu but a different revision of it, i.e newer or older, these can also be used.

for example , 110bhp afn audi a4 ecu will plug into and run a 2.5tdi T4 (without changing the map), despite the ecu's having completely different numbers and software versions, assuming the immbo has been sorted.
