i'm after a straight forward run through of what's needed to put a 20vt into a mk2. i have looked through the usual forums before but it's just bits and pieces here and there. surely there must be a guide, or even a definitive list of parts somewhere?
base car is an 87 8v gti on digifant injection.

I've not seen a direct walk-through for the 20vt swap anywhere, but I haven't really looked for them either.
I think the swap will be more difficult into your car Harry as it is an earlier car like ours with the CE1 fusebox, but it may be OK as it's a digi. I'd assume your hazard switch is on the dash and not the top of the steering column.
I did the 2ltr 16v swap into our MK2, engine code ABF. I bought a plug & play loom for it though.
Harry, on the loom side for the 20vt you can buy plug & play looms and other stuff from a company called QP Engineering, they're not cheap mind you. Their website has a helpful guide on the parts needed etc http://www.qpeng.com/conversion_guide.html

Jake, what engine swap are you looking at doing?
Yeah, Hazzard switch is on the dash. A bit of a pain as yet again we've got a car that's a crossover version! Early stalks / buttons, lhd layout wipers, early 1/4light doors, smaller early type balljoints but with the digifant intake / injection setup.E30BeemerLad wrote:I've not seen a direct walk-through for the 20vt swap anywhere, but I haven't really looked for them either.

Can make buying bits from places like ecp a right pain in the arse!
Wiring I can kind of work my way through, it needs an overhaul anyway as there's the remains of an 80s alarm / imobiliser in the engine bay which I'd like to strip out.
I've seen some really factory looking conversions which is exactly what I'd want. I think a standard 150bhp lump would be fun with a similar grunty feel of the original 8v, just more of it, with the potential for easy increases in the future.
cheers,
