Someone I work with is selling his L200, going to have a look tomorrow as I'm tempted to buy it. It is a 2004 model, import with the older 2.8 engine (same as Shogun afaik). Only done 50,000 miles, and he is the only owner from new.
Has anyone owned one of these, just wondering what sort of things to look out for apart from the usual checks when buying second hand?

Huge disappointment to drive. Love the look but the interior is not a nice place to be.

One of my mates has one of these - for such a huge vehicle the space in the cab is pathetic - particularly in the back.

Don't they chew wheel bearings for fun ??
I was looking at one back in 2004, went to the dealer for a nosey and it was crap inside, the seat didn't move up and down like the E30 and there was no headroom, I looked like Stephen Hawkings.
If ya 5ft tall and handy with the spanners, then what's to lose?

Wheel bearings go frequently if they are used as intended, my mate Joel works for Liebher in an open cast quarry and he has a new shape warrior as his company bus.
So far he has had the rear bearings done twice in 18 months and under 20K miles.

Cheers for the replies, L200's aren't well liked then! I've driven them before, not like a car at all to drive but would be a work vehicle and I have my e30 for when I want something fun to drive! Just phoned my current van insurer and they don't insure imports, think it will be a PITA to insure so doubt I'll bother with this one

i had an 07 plate for a while. couldnt get up fook all off road and very light back end used to mean the tail end would often try to overtake you with very little effort. could see 40+mpg if i drove it like a woman though.
My mate has one of these, can't skim the head apparently, he's now 3 & 1/2 bags lighter, and that was mates rates, brand new head from the dealer too!!

live axle and no proper diff locks mean its crap when you need it most.
build quality poor, spares ££ , a £1K shogun is better value and better to drive on and off road.
Navara better but not a great place to be still.
its a NO from me...

Think I have been put off the L200 then! I have driven Navaras before (worked in a Nissan garage for a bit), and they didn't seem too bad to drive, nice and easy to get a bit of a drift on in the wet too
My boss has one of the pre 2006 ones and that chucked a rod through the block at about 80,000 miles, had a new engine fitted and been fine since.
Is that the case with Navaras that if thet have had a new engine fitted by Nissan then they should be ok with regards to it not happening again?
Someone else mentioned a Ford Ranger too, any opinions on these?

If the engine has been done the only other big expense is the dual mass flywheel we have converted a few to solid flywheels but it makes them very rattly at idle but having said that all the modern diesels you look at are going to have this issue. have no experience of the rangers at all sorry.
