I got overtaken by a guy in a 2004 Vauxhall/Holden Monaro yesterday. It sounded absolutely 8) . I had a closer look there was no VXR badging and it had just the one exhaust on the left hand side but i think it is a V8 but am not sure.

Do all V8s have this kind of sound and does it depend more upon the engine design layout (i.e. V EIGHT) or the exhaust system design?

I heard it go earlier on round a corner but i could not see it at first i thought it might be a Mercedes-Benz AMG.

Oh and why do Ferrari 355/360/F430 with their V8s produce a different kind of sound?

Does the new E92 M3 sound just like this?

the monaro uses an american LS donk, its a typical US V8 noise. a rover V8 sounds nice and even better with a TVR crank

V8's do tend to have similar noise, but the modern BMW ones are harder revving so that changes

the V8 configuration affects it, depending on the V angle and how many cams and if is a push rod V8

plenty on noise clips on you tube to keep you entertained

Different V8's have different firing orders too, which means crank arrangements are probably different. eg. LS1 firing order 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3, Ferrari 328 firing order 1-5-3-7-4-8-2-6.
