Hey Guys,

got this problem with a friends Landrover Freelander on a 56plate TD4.

Its caught my eye because she has the same running issues over and over again with same garage.

First of all she used to hesitate idling when warm then would cut out and not start again until cold.

So went to Garage first time, Diagnostic cleared fault on computer all good ( Garage didnt see said fault when taken for a test drive).

Freelander Back from Garage and after half hour driving same issues.

Second time back at Garage Changed fuel regulator.

Freelander back from Garage and again cuts out and still hesitating. Call garage to pick up.

Gone back to garage again they have now changed fuel pump.

They say that a injector needs cleaning but do not know which one out of four.
to clean all for £1,200
I dont think this is right whats your opinions

Regards Sean.

£1200 to clean all the injectors, they may as well ask you simply to bend over and take it like a man. Way over the odds, you can clean them yourself with brake cleaner and a can of compressed air. Most places you could send them off to be done for a lot less than you have been quoted. New ones can vary from £50 upto about £200. Based on a 4 injectors and their price of £1200 it would be cheaper to replace them (including labour).

Typically its No1 or No2 injector that sticks, same as on the disco and range rovers. Possibly pour some neat injector cleaner (ie- redex) onto the injector (one everything is disconnected), removal and cleaning is a pain hence the £1200 quote, most of that is labour to get them out in the first place, typically they cease and then its fun as there is a copper washer that gets stuck and there is a seal part way down the injector that no amount of WD-40 etc can get past.

I would get a second quote from another garage to clean the injectors, probably get a price of around £300-£400.

Injectors now cleaned but same issue!!
£505.00 to test and recon injectors

I drove freelander to work today (Loughton to Hammersmith 406!!) and while in traffic started hestating (idle) and seemed to loose power while taking off. this issue was intermittent but you would have to keep revs up as you could feel it would potentially stall.

on way home today she stalled just as I pulled into driveway!!

so far its had:
Diagnostic.
fuel Pump.
some sort of fuel regulator
and injectors tested and recon

Any ideas of what problems could be?

im only ofay with these old german motors with the old bosch motronic setup!!

Dude, seriously. Check out user injectortune on here - he does full injector clean/refurb/test for about a tenner each. You've been raped - don't go back to that mechanic ever again!
