My new Daily
Moderator: martauto
My neighbour has a 5 door GTi ( on a 06 not sure what mk it is ) and I've got to admit they do look and feel nice. Even the GTi returns healthy figures as a daily ( compaired to what my C2 was returning anyway ). The ergomnomics are really nice ( as with any modern car ) but alas the one thing it needs more than anything else is a BMW exhuast note
( This is what I miss the most about my Alpina )

I think having a modern daily makes you appreciate the E30 more when you get back in it.
I have a Mondeo TDCi 130 as a daily driver - do about 50 miles a day commute, its got some of the most comfortable seats I've ever had in a car, good stereo, ice cold aircon, cupholders
, masses of torque for overtaking
and does 40-45mpg no matter how hard I drive it - which for a big heavy car I don't think is too bad - and it cost less than £2k
Its very bland - but its good solid transport - I keep trying to find reasons to change it as I don't usually keep daily drivers for long but I can't really find any.
Enjoy the Golf Alex - are you still keeping the Touring as a project or when you sell the Sport are you moving away from E30's for a bit ?

i would of kept the sport, if only it ran properly, and didnt use as much fuel.e30topless wrote:Alex i am so glad you have finaly found something you enjoy![]()
IMO modern cars are something everyone should try , at least once ? and i know you really wanted a 325i for long enough, sadly yours hasn't been too forgiving, as you know I can of course help with this should you stick with it,
just be aware that if and when the golf goes wrong it will be very expensive, sadly new cars are disposable most are familiar with this,
happy motoring fella, if your passing by then call in
overall i would rather drive the sport, the vw feels nicer to drive but the sport is just "cool"
ps: ive sent you a PM need to bring the sport down to you next week if poss
PS: the touring is staying as i couldnt cope with no e30
e30 fixed this month, golf remapped next month. had a quote of £170 from a local place to do it

Had a quick blast in mates 1.9 130 brake TDi MK4 today, after he had it re-mapped at the weekend.
Jesus-f'in-christ, i could not believe how quick it was. Running standard suspension and wheels (Yoko tyres) and he was getting tyre scrabble in 2nd, in the dry. Virtually zero lag, it just picked up and went in any gear, and the trip comp still read an average of 48mpg
Yet to be RR'd, but the fella who mapped it figures around 180bhp and (not sure how true this could be) 400+ torques
Im not sure what the knock on effect will be, the suspension feels deadly instable in the bends, and the mapping dude said his clutch will be toast before long
