Does anyone remember the coach building outfits from the late 70's and 80's? Check this website if you cant.

http://www.1000sel.com/

Some of these outfits started around the late 70's and catered for people who wanted more performance from their 911 or bespoke interior for their S class. But anything could be built if you had the right money, twin turbos and gullwing doors on your SEC mercedes etc. Many more companies jumped on the same band wagon in the 80's.

Obviously money couldn't always buy taste but i think most of the cars on the website are so bad they are cool. My favourite from that whole era is the koenig competition, with its dubious 1000bhp claim. It probably had nearer 650bhp but back in 1985 it was something fairly special.

Also try and check out the uwe gembella story. He owned a major porsche outfit which started out in the 80's, and produced some lairy stuff. His company is still going to this day, but he is not. He was murdered a couple of years back in south Africa when doing some bad dealings with mafia types.

70's & 80's styling just says Mk2 Escorts with Slot mags, jacked up rears, chromed axles and rear window louvres to me Jon,not a good era for styling. :o
Less said the better, mind, even now, some of our less affluent social housing areas seem oblivious to good taste also!
