this has to be one of the worst though, especially considering what beauties the company has come up with in the past

quite a common thing round these parts, Lynx were just down the road from my work before (i think) going bust. They're now in Berkshire but there are small off-shoot companies still dotted around Hastings, formed by former Lynx staff. The bodyshop over the road used to do their final prep and paint, they still usually have a handful of E or D types in at any one time

They only made about 70. I only ever saw one on the road - in Cheshire.

Allergic estate was not that bad...remember that it followed 1100/1300 saloon that was only available as an estate very late in it's production run...

My mother had an 1100 estate for a while,my then g/f and I discovered that the rear seat backrest would fold backwards into the 'boot' area...bouncing around on this was the final nail in this cars exhaust! :D

The only "estate" style car pre-E30 that I ever quite liked was the Reliant Scimitar GTE

IMO the E30 Touring was the first "Cool" estate type car - I cant think of another 80's estate worth mentioning - they were all too big, too wallowy and too slow.

Volvo tried with the T5 but quick as it was it was still a fookin Volvo estate 8O

Estates didnt really get properly interesting until a few years ago with the E46 330 Touring in MSport flavour or the Top-end Audi A4's - these are good looking fast cars in their own right.

An se5 in good nick is actually a nice car, and very well built for something British.
We broke a horror of one for parts a while back and it was a bit of a shame really that the previous owner had let it get so bad, 9 years in a barn had finished it off.

I like the Audi but don't think they were as good as an E30, and the Aerodeck was a bit different but you can keep the rest.

My ex-Mrs had one of those Bluebird estates for a while - horrible turd. Like most jap cars it was very easy to drive but it was woefully slow. Transporting 3 fully grown and muddy german shepherd dogs every day plus an absolute caning every time I drove it killed it after a few months.

Sorry Trev - much as I love old Fords those Granada's are pretty definitive of whats wrong with 99% of pre E30 Touring estates - take a good looking saloon and ruin it by grafting a big fat arse onto it

Agreed, most estates tend to look like the saloon with a lump tacked on. They look an afterthought or just seem like the designer couldn't be bothered.
