Couldn't believe it yesterday, opened my renewal letter from Tesco Insurance, and the premium has increased by almost £300 a year (thats will another years no claims on my policy). went onto confused.com and wahay, got a quote for less than last years premium.

who in their right mind would pay almost £600 a year to insurance a 1997 1.3 Suzuki Swift 5 Door?????

£296, thats a bit more like it but still not exactly cheap but its the best price i have got so far.

The E30 via confused.com incl full business use 15k miles a year is £335.00 which i didn't think was too bad considering its mainstream insurers, not specialists or classic policy.

I had a heart attack when I changed insurance off my Alpina to my Scooby. It went from £112 a year to £1040 ( I shit you not! ).

I always used a classic policy on my 325i Cab and the C2 which kept things down. Only draw back is you will not earn a no claims on it.

Who are the underwriters for the policy?

There is no loyalty from insurers ( don't think there ever has been )

They rely on inertia - people who simply can't be bothered to shop around - for their profits.

I was with Esure for 4 years up to this year as they were the cheapest every year both on renewal and when I did a search on the comparison sites as a new customer.

This year they were £100 more expensive than the cheapest quote I got elsewhere and they werent interested in doing any sort of deal to keep me as a customer - 36 years old, clean license, 17 Years NCD, low risk postcode, 12k a year mileage and dull as dishwater car ( Mondeo diesel ). Hardly a high risk.

The only way to beat the system is to shop around and play them off against each other - sometimes calling at the end of the week or end of the month also gets you a better deal as the telesales monkeys will be wanting to hit their sales targets. Never tell them the cheapest quote you've had until they've quoted you - and then just make a stupidly low quote up when they reveal their figures - its cut throat but these tossers won't do you any favours

After hearing of 35% premium increases,I wasn't looking forward to the renewal quote for the B10 (35k daily driver)
LV actually dropped the renewal price by 25% which was nice.
Still not exactly cheap though.
