This isn’t a pristine, original E30 but it is a very tidy one that gets compliments everywhere it goes. It could easily be made into a minter with a bit of paint, or kept as it is, to be enjoyed.
For me it’s a car to be driven. It never fails to put a smile on my face whenever I take it out for a spirited drive and I’ve taken it on the odd track day. It epitomises the analogue driving experience and you can really enjoy driving it on the road without getting into license losing speeds.

I bought the car as a project in September 2015. It had an issue with the throttle position sensor and the engine would stall if allowed to drop below 1500RPM. I did a lot of work to get it mechanically sorted with the aim of taking it on a road trip around Europe, which I did in April 2016. The car was faultless over 1,500 miles, including 3 laps of the Nurburgring!

In 2017 I moved away for work and SORN’d the car, leaving it dry stored in my grandmothers garage and ensuring I kept up the basic maintenance whenever I went back home to visit.

On returning to my hometown in 2019 I got cracking with re-commissioning the E30 (which is all detailed below). As it has been a second car, I only use it whenever the weather is nice and store it in my heated, integral garage.

o 4 wheel alignment (Neutral front, ¾ deg rear camber with 2mm toe in)

Exterior:
Refurbished headlights
Re-painted bonnets and wings (2015)
Rough in places, amazing in others. The bonnet and wings were finished to a very high standard, however, there are rusty spots on some stone chips around the windscreen, spidering of the paint on the rear arms, small spots on the bottom of the doors and some rust creeping under the sunroof runners. Under the bonnet is also scabby in common areas e.g. battery tray, under the washer bottle, etc. I had some touch ups done in 2017 as a preventative measure but the paint shop did a poor job. It would need a wet sand to get rid of some of the worst of it.
2 stone chips on the windscreen

M42B18
Replaced rocker cover gasket
Re-torqued and loctited the lower sump gasket bolts
Re-painted in VHT with new oil filler cap
Converted to coil-on-plug (easily reversed)

Replaced the leaky original fuel tank with a 63L tank that uses the siphon mechanism (prevents fuel starvation on long right hand bends). Also updated the gauge cluster to include the correct 62L gauge so it reads true.
Replacement fuel pump and sender unit

Refurbished 14” BBS RZ “basketweave” alloys with metal lock-turn centre caps, Continental Premium Contact tyres in 195/65/R14

Rear axle refurbished in May 2020:
