Hi,

Personally I do not Trust in God.
Surely if the common interest is,
S62 into 'X', then surely its a common goal,
not a fooking pissing contest.
For sure its nice to be 100% correct and
accurate, but life is not a dress rehearsal

Ok guys, Oil pump issue is sorted now. lets leave it be.
Moving on... Will, can possibly email me some of the pix u have of the x5 diffs and internals etc as I know your site is down. I can get them on mine then to help demonstrate some queries i have. Shoot me a pm on here or rev and ill send my email address over.
In other news my S62 ecu has arrived with the oil valves programmed out. So in theory I could fire the bastard up if i get off my arse and got some work done. The bloody weather is killing my motivation tho.
More soon

"In God we trust, all others bring data" is a quip by Demming meaning "Propose any darn thing you want, but be able to substantiate it with solid data rather than intuition or gut feelings.
What are you looking for regarding the diff?

As much as possible really. I need the various internals u found and the subframe/rack clearances if u have them?TheDarkSideofWill wrote: What are you looking for regarding the diff?

Hi,
If your going the E34 M5 Flywheel
route, then let me know as I think
I should have a complete E34 M5 Flywheel
and clutch which came off a 85,000 mile
engine a few years ago.
No doubt it will have some surface
rust from standing, but Flywheel should
be good to go when cleaned up.
Regards,
The Gorilla.

S38 flywheels have 8-bolt ring, whereas V8 flywheels have 9 bolts.. (or it was 9 and 10, anyways V8 has one more..)

Im 100% sure the E46 330d has a "SAC" pressure plate, like Danny said, dont expect it to last that long, it will begin to slip soon as the friction plate wears slightly.turk wrote:Ive been talking to Richard at Big bavarian beauties, very helpful chap. He has pointed out to me that the e46 330d clutch pressure plate is suitable for 500-600 nm odd of torque.
AND the e46 plates just happen to fit straight on the s62 flywheel. So a sprung clutch disc and off we trot
Waiting for loads of bits to arrive. pix to come soon hopefully liven up this rather boring thread
The difference in the pressure plates ability to withstand torque is in the main finger springs and the metal straps holding the case to the friction lining.
I think its worth while trying this recipe as its only a proof of concept at this stage and can be upgraded at a later stage.
Some decent progress today. Though not as much done as id of liked.
Mocked up the gearbox, bellhousing, clutch etc.
Need some help:
Does anyone have a number off an e30 m3 S14 engines gearbox spline bearing? (Behind the flywheel) Pix or part numbers much appreciated.
The bearing on the s62 is different to the s14 box so will need a custom one made.
Thanks to DaveTheGoat for coming and finishing off my welding today! Looking forward to returning the favour when it comes time to wiring up your car ;)

Will this help?
The pilot bearing dimensions are 12x32x10 and part number is: 11 21 1 271 403.

does anyone by any chance have the Bearing number itself imprinted on the side wall? I need a combination of the e39 and e30 one made.
The E39 one is SC 0289 LHA Im told with this and the e30 number a custom one can be made.
cheers

Custom bearing - no way (if you don't want it to cost 100000000000 €)...
Think it throught - S14 (as almost all other older BMW's) has 12 x 32 x 10 bearing (inner hole x diameter x width), whereas S62 has 15 x 32 x 10 bearing. So the only difference is in the "clutch shaft diameter", which is 15mm with the newer cars and 12mm on the older ones..
Online-ETK, such as www.bmwfans.info is really useful, better to learn to use it ;)
So, what you need to do is to buy normal S14 bearing and smash it on place - "problem" solved.

If I do that the bearing will be snug on the spline shaft but flap around in the engine end surely?Jonsku wrote:Custom bearing - no way (if you don't want it to cost 100000000000 €)...

Need some advice on brakes.
I quite fancy a Pedal box, but remember seeing someone build using a remote servo.
I dont want to stick a servo in my glove box, but I also want it to be usable daily.
There are a variety of pedal boxes available for Lhd cars. I would appreciate any input on how usable they are 'off track'. They are also silly money or am I being cheap?
cheers

You're welcometurk wrote: Some pix of the x5 diff Courtesy of Will: (cheers mate!)

As you can see, it's going to be pretty snug on that side of the engine...
Maybe this time the forum will finally start notifying me of replies...

(You've probably found this already, but) this looks tidy (assuming there's still room for everything under the dash too fit):
http://www.compbrake.com/bias-pedal-box ... l-box.html
Looks to mount where the stock pedals do. That and a dual circuit servo (in the boot perhaps?) and you'd have it cracked.
Like you say, not cheap though!
Edited to say, I'll hopefully need some wiring sorted in the next few weeks
Might be worth checking out how much room you've got to play with under the dash and bringing a LHD pedal box up with you. I've got half an idea.

I had a Pedal box in my m3, drove it on the road and track and would probably not use a pedal box on a road car again. Servo help a lot when muppets cut you up etc.

Hi,
Changing to a Pedal Box for a
Road Car, as already stated is
not always a good thing.
Once you alter the Pedal Ratio
and the Servo assist pressure alters, then
getting the correct pedal modulation
and feel can be difficult, and that is
without factoring in larger Brakes [Pistons]
more fluid transfer and required rear bias.
V8 against the front bulkhead, then remote
is the only option unless you fit the
Servo ''in'' the car.
Regards,
The Gorilla.

what i dont know quite how to do remote servo wise is connect the pedal to the remote servo's pushrod.
Is there a cylinder on the pedal? or in the bay?
any diagrams?
