finished the engine mountings yesterday. i tried in vain, but couldn't get the gearbox back on whilst the engine was sat on its mountings, so i had to lift the engine back off its mountings, to be able to tilt it back at enough of an angle to be able to refit the gearbox.
next is to make up a gearbox crossmember, now that its bolted back up to the engine.

been a little busy with other things this week, but managed to get in the garage this afternoon.
fabricated a gearbox crossmember and fitted it,
so the engine is in its final / finished position.
next on the list.............the dreaded exhaust manifolds.

Just came accross this: e30.de offers programming for S62 ECU to make it work in other bodies than E39.

Interesting option for those who don't have capabilities to make it work by themselves. All other wiring than ECU is pretty straightforward.

Interesting to see if they would do the same with an S54 ECU as I have one on its own with an engine loom and nothing else apart from the engine and box obviously.
Might be anothe alternative to the Specialists components loom conversion and ECU.

tell me about it dave !

finished making / modifying the exhaust manifolds on the weekend, and re-fitted them this evening. i wasn't looking forward to them but at least they're done now, another job that can be crossed off the list.

The S54 is 340ish BHP actually but I do agree with what your getting at, the S62 is in a totally different league.

Link please?

My last E30 had the S54B32 and it was proper fast. It had 317 rwhp.

I am just wondering if the S62 is worth the extra hassle performance wise.

From what I read the original M5's seem to dyno quite low numbers. This indicates that the S62 might not deliver the promised 400 hp.

its about 60 bhp and 100lbs/ft torque, faster.

i suppose its down to the individual, as to whether its worth the extra hassle.

i too have built/owned a s54 e30, and to be honest, i didn't find it that much more quicker than the s50b32 e30 i built. not that i wouldn't have another s54, i thought it was a brilliant engine. but i think the s62 is just that little bit more again.
and the s65 is even more again. i couldn't stretch far enough for the s65 this time, but who knows, if i get offered enough for this s62 conversion package (once its finished), i might then have enough to get a s65 kit.

i suppose it would be more than most people could afford.

you wouldn't get much change from £4k for just the engine,
then there's the gearbox, exhaust, prop, electrics, etc etc etc

i'm more than happy to keep this set-up for myself, it's just if i was offered propper coin for it, i'd use it to get a s65 kit.

Bear engines sell for about 2-3K over here!!!
Smaller market and the fact people are afraid taking on the engine...

Same goes for the S54 to the point S50s are nearly worth more

That's what I was think £3.5k+ vat then all that ugly wiring. Plus the box prop mounts. It's big money! But it's a special conversion. Different from the norm and BIG power. I like it. If I had ?k spare I would love that set up in a sleeper bronzit chromie winkeye

What about modifying the S62?

Solid lifters, cams and de-stroking to 4.4l = more revs.

I think that would yield more power than the S65.

Piece of cake in an E30 :D
If you think it is tight in an E30 there is even less space in a Z1, not only for the S5X engines I have put in but for the S62.
