carburetor problem

Hi. Guys.
The other day i. Was adjusting my valve clearance on my 316 M10 motor i also had to replace my carburetor rubber stand. I started the car the engine runs only when i have my foot on the acceleration pedal. It is basically not idling on its own. Please help.

I assume we're talking about the original Pierburg carb., and not a Weber replacement.
The idle is controlled electronically, using a vacuum operated piston. Have you reconnected the vacuum pipe and electrical plugs properly?
TBH, it's a minor miracle that this system has run properly up to now. The potentiometer that provides feedback of the throttle position is notoriously unreliable.

Brian, are we talkng about the Pierburg 1B2 (1.6) or the 2BE (1.8)?

Didn´t know about potenciometers on this carbs... :/

Haven't set eyes on one for around twenty years, but 2BE I think.

I had similar reliability issues with my Pierburg 2BE and swapped it out for a Weber 32-34 DMTL with a manual choke. Also fitted a K&N air-filter and it runs a pulls a hell of a lot better now! ;)

I have an old Haynes manual for the 2BE if you want it. I'm amazed it still works too.

Apologies for the thread hijack, but I went to post a fresh one and saw this!

I also have a 316 and it idles fine when its cold, but then hunts once warm. Can someone describe how it works? Does the idle control only work once hot (along with presumably the autochoke)
