If I get a 6 speed box out of a M5 do I need the clutch and flywheel?
My donor is a 1999 740i automatic.
Cheers

I am going same route M60 base engine but same gearbox.
Clutch wise the i believe the standard m5 clutch will fit the m62 flywheel. It has a solid hub so you get chatter down the input shaft as there is no damper between engine and gearbox. The standard m5 clutch is also a self adjusting clutch.
I have explored the option of a single mass fly using a custom sprung hub clutch from the likes of Big Bavarian Beauties
Good luck and have fun.

Hello, did you figure this out?
I'm having trouble finding a 6 speed gearbox, would be happy with a 5 tbh but either way not seeming to find any,
I'm going with the M60B40 Engine, so what gearbox, flywheel and clutch do i need?
