Straight swap? Understand more then likely sitting it in mounts, pipe work, exhaust maybe will be all the same but what about the wiring?

Can I plug my 4.0 loom straight in?

Any gains? My 4.0 could do with a light rebuild on the head ( slight blue smoke overrun), so my thought is to not bother and simply swap to a 4.4, maybe do a slight bit of head work before it goes in,

Non vanos units a better option? If there are any!

M62 is different in electronics etc, so not a straight swap.

What you could do is to swap B44 bottom end to B40, this way you would have the best heads, sharpest cams and twinrowchain. Quite a lot of info on that on r3vlimited.
