M60 auto to manual swap?
Moderator: martauto
Hey, iv finally got myself another E30 after wanting another for a few years, its been stripped out and ill be starting to repair and rebuild it over the next year or so, im thinking of fitting an M60 engine but its hard to find a manual one so was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to convert an auto engine to manual? would really appreciate any help. thanks for looking guys. Yes its' possible. All you need is the gearbox, flywheel + clutch. The ECU's are the same, as well as most of the wiring. Just cut away all wires related to autobox and then you need to do some additional wiring (so that the ECU thinks that the gear is always at "P" in order to start the engine).
Pretty straightforward, but involves a lot of wiring-schematic reading.

I have a spare 5 spd but all the mount have had it
, so you'd need to make something up using the casing bolts.

have yourself a long look at ebay and the 5 series forums mate, your best bet is to buy a cheap 540i. sometimes they come with a manual box where they wanted to convert from auto to manual themselves? i got a 6speed with mine
good luck dude
