Hi guys,
I've been thinking of doing this swap for a while now, and have been massively impressed by Jonsku's build. My car is also a cab, so is really a summer cruiser and definitely not a track car.
Having read a few of these builds on here it seems there are three ways of tackling the brake master cylinder.
Firstly moving the master cylinder up behind the left hand side headlight. Im not massively keen on this as it could have weak spots where the connecting rods need to be extended. Im also not keen on the master cylinder being right up behind the lights incase of an accident. Stupid I know but thats that.
Secondly using the Hydro boost system from the older ?750? This seems like a good system, but can anyone tell me if the master cylinder mounts in the same position as the e30 standard item, or does it have to be moved to one side? Also what are the down sides of this system?
Lastly is using a Tilton or similar pedal box. This seems like a very good way of dealing with the problem as it moves the master cylinder, and also means the braking distribution can be fine tuned after a big brake upgrade. However what would this setup be like to live with in the real world? As I said, the car isn't going to be tracked, and is really a cruising fun back road car.
Any advice would be great.
Chris.

The master cylinder might not work in a cab with the reinforcing on the strut. The hydro system is still quite long. It fouled the strut and the head whichever way you moved it.
I ran it with a bias setup, but it was on a push rod where it normally is. I was going to go with a floor mount setup when I did it again, but I never got round to it. I'd try to fit top mount pedals for better feel as apparently floor mounts, when you're not sitting on the floor, are quite uncomfortable when in a normal seating position. A few people drove my v8 touring and while they require a bit more pressure being unassisted, fast road work and spirited driving will give the best pedal feel. You will need to upgrade the brakes if you do go this route. Standard brakes and unassisted is pretty pants. Run 4 pots if you can or do a caliper upgrade.

Do you mean the master cylinder from the Hydro system might not work? I thought the reinforcing was only at the top of the suspension strut to the inside of the arch?
Im liking the thought of the top mounted pedals, apart from anything it keeps it looking more standard. I assume you mean this sort of thing?

I'm planning on doing a big brake up grade anyway, so I'm not too bothered about that, but I dont want it to feel like driving a racing car all the time!

Willnz, where are you based? Is that New Zealand? Ill have another read through the threads I think, but I'm still leaning towards the pedal box. It just seems to offer a neat all in one solution.
Cheers Chris.

Hmmm. How would I go about "sizing" all the components? I think there's going to have to be a lot more research into this. Could you recommend some boosters? or where to look to get more info on what maybe suitable?
Cheers Chris.

Stick with the standard effective bore sizes, and try to stiffen everything up to improve feel would be my suggestion...
Or copy Theo's setup if he's happy to divulge and happy with his bias?

Sorry, I meant the vertical bracing that goes up the strut. Been a while!
