I have a M60B40 that I'm swapping into my E30 however the M60B40 came out of 95 740 with EWS. I don't have the EWS module, keys etc. so I was hoping to swap the harness with one out of any earlier car. The donor harness would be from a 93 530 (auto).

My questions is, are there any major differences between the M60B30 and M60B40 harnesses.

I understand the knock sensor are different so I will reuse the original knock sensors from the M60B40.

Will this work or am I missing something?

It works fine, knock sensors are different as you mentioned but other than that the harnesses are identical. If you're using manual gearbox, it'd be much easier to get wiring harness from manual car, though the auto-ECU wires are easy to snap off as they are not needed.

Thanks for help.

Unfortunately there were very few E34 V8 manual cars sold here. I found that out when I was trying to find a trans. So I doubt I'll ever find a manual harness.

Can an auto wiring loom and ECU be used with a manual box? I heard that you needed a manual loom and ecu with a manual box or the engine will run in limp mode. I have no idea either way, but I'm curious to know!

I knifed one M60 E34 automatic harness, all the auto-box wires could be cut away without problems, as also the diagnostic part so just carefully cut excess wires out.
