hi all, just in the process of an m62 conversion which has tested my minimum mechanical to the limit, is there any one in the london/herts area that would take it on as a job to finish the wiring and geting her up and running for me? I do not even want to make a start as I can only just wire a plug! cheers. Gav
What's the point in starting such a swap when you don't know what you're doing?
Anyways, there are multiple wiring diagram systems (WDS) on the internet, where you can see which wire goes where and get it up'n'running. Though the M62 probably has EWS 2 so you'd need the key chip, ring for ingnition switch and EWS box.. (from which model and year is the engine out of, manual or auto box?)

Your post is not in the ethos of the Zone. Fella is looking for help, I agree that wiring may not be difficult to some but for some it is !Jonsku wrote:What's the point in starting such a swap when you don't know what you're doing?![]()

Thank you!! I am a chef by trade and have been very proud of my efforts thus far, I admit the project is way out of my leauge but have enjoyed it up to now its an 88 320i that i put a 325 in last year and now the m62 which was out of a 99 540 auto, i would love to have the ability to finish it my self but I know it would be many nights spent doing something I really do not unerstand

yes that is what i have at the moment,I have been looking for a manual loom and ecu but not having much luck at the mo
Nice work Will...............................willnz wrote:Ok, another question, have you used the auto loom and ECU? If you have, I suspect you are going to have an issue with the CAN BUS system as it will be looking for the auto box and not find it, therefore will shut down.
Glenn, any comments here? You have been meddling with these later systems as we all know..
Yea it was a bit harsh reply, but hey - that's reality.HartgeH27 wrote:Your post is not in the ethos of the Zone. I've done such a swap and helped in many others. If you don't know how to do it the result will only be messed up car sitting on the driveway and unhappy owner. Therefore i felt it was better to say it straight in the beginning. Gain some knowledge and when you've the feeling that you know how to tackle the problems go for the swap. It’s not for beginners.

will the 3.0v8 flywheel fit the m62?
Yes, all the M60, M62 and S62 flywheels and starters are interchangeable. Clutches are different, though.littlechef wrote:will the 3.0v8 flywheel fit the m62?

thank you, I am using a six speed gear box so what clutch would I need to use? a 3.0 clutch? and will that be ok with the extra power of the m62?
No Probs, Where are you? If you are nearby I can pop around when passing and help you out, I am using a Auto Loom, with a manual ECU, just leave out the auto ECU and that is a good place to start.
Cheers

Thanks once again, I am still on the look out for a manual ECU I think rocking horse poo would be easier to find! I still have a fair amount of work to do before I get to the electrics but I may need some advice very soon
.. but not for the 6-speeder! 5-speed and 6-speed gearboxes have different diameter "clutch shaft", so the 3-litre clutch disc won't fit...kerrie wrote:Yes, The 30L clutch is Good for the M62!
You should use M62B44 clutch, it's same diameter (240mm) as in B35 but has the bigger hole for the shaft..

Nice one, was going to order a 3-litre one today, glad I jumped on here first!! cheers kerrie
i might....and i stress might....have a manual 3.0l loom and ecu which is non ews and i asume with a change of chip / remap this would work..... however i might need to use this myself as i have a non ews auto loom on the engine that i am using which will have a manual box
can anyone clarify that a non ews m60b40 auto loom on a m60b40 manual conversion will work or not without the auto box ecu plugged in or will i need to use the m60b30 manual loom with the m60b40 ecu ??
this will help out myself and littlechef i think

The autobox ECU does not need to be plugged in. In fact, you can cut all the wires going to it (just be careful when cutting and check where is which wire going etc..), that way you can make the loom cleaner and simpler. This is with M60.
I'm not sure of how it would work with M62, though.

Yes it is going to look for that but it's not going through the autobox, but it cuts the "starter wire" (black-yellow) with a relay. Just take the relay away and lead the wire directly to the ignition switch wire and you'll be fine.stbaz wrote:yeh it is m60 . that is good then. i was concerned that the engine ecu would stop the engine from starting up as it might be looking for the auto gear selector being in position p or n
