Both of these sit in Nissan S13 bodies.

Image

This one has the supercharger and it made 362hp and 350lbs torque with the belt slipping only giving 0.2bar boost at the top end but 0.35bar at peak torque. After they sort the belt out it´ll be in the 420hp range with steady 365-370lbs at 5000rpm+

Image

The other is another drift machine
http://www.driftworks.com/forum/drift-c ... -spec.html

Quite good results of 356hp and 386lbs torque for a NA 4.4 engine.

Both running VEMS of course.

There are no mods, it´s stock apart from the custom exhaust.

Did you by any chance happen to dyno the same engines with original ECU.

I don't see how a STOCK M62B44 would make 360hp / 520Nm. That's 70hp / 80Nm more than specced... all that just with a "new" ECU? No way

No dynoing with stock ecu.

I know the results are high, but this is what the dyno reported and it´s been a fair dyno in the past. Even though it was 10% lower it would still be very good for a B44

There is another B44 going on the dyno in a few weeks. it´ll settle what these engines are really doing I think.

It can not in the appropriate way, it only has the ability to do 2 camshafts. It could in a way run two exhaust cams on the position of one of them but thats not what I call correct so my answer is NO.

There is no Vanos on the exhaust cams, just the 2 inlet cams, like the M62TUB44. So can I assume it would be OK?

In that case it could actually do it.
One of the intake cams would be called "exhaust cam" but thats it.

As ph1 said, how much for a plug and play vems set up for a M60B40, could the same ecu (loom modified) be used later on in a M62B44 or maybe a S62?

The wiring between the M60´s, M62´s and S62´s are so different it wont work together.

PM for details.

Hi Jonsku!
I'm Gabor from Hungary. I'd like to show you another V8. It's a stock M60B40, with home made exhaust, DTA S60 pro ecu, light flywheel and some kind of spec. clutch.
By the way, those exhaust manifolds are looks awesome.
In the middle of the page, you can find a Dyno sheet.
It also produces around 360hp. The torque is a little bit less, somewhere around 480Nm, but its "only" a B40.
Perhaps ignoring the environmental standards gains this much.
Greetings from Hungary!

Hello Gabor,

sorry but in my opinion those figures are way over what is achievable in real life, and as such I highly doubt the accuracy of you dynos..

I base these arguments on three M60B40 that have been dynoed on different places that have been proved to be very accurate. All of them were dynoed before and after the changes were made.

Stock the engines made 280...290hp. With reprogramming the other one "live on dyno", it made slightly over 300hp and couple of Nm under 400Nm. One with "ebay chip" made 310hp / 420Nm (though that one had highest dyno figure in the first place). So realistically these two made same hp after chipping, though the "ebay chip" never got as good behaviour to the engine as the "live-mapped" one.. And both had "reworked exhaust", otherwise realistically stock engines.

The third one, also with "reworked exhaust" made roughly 350hp / 430Nm with heavily reworked heads and grinded cams etc..

Thus, I'd say roughly 300hp / 400Nm is limit with pump-fuel for stock M60B40. B44 might be able to give 10% more but that's about it, unless you start playing around with heads..

M60B44 with worked heads / cams and proper exhaust might, on the other hand, get you quite near 375hp / 475Nm figures on a streetable car.

What are these 'eBay chips' you speak of jonsku? Are they any good and worthy of a buy?

Don't know if they're available anymore as that case was something like 5 years back. Anyways, they were something like this; http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-740i-V8-Chi ... 4ab1a78e20

I wouldn't recommend those, yes they will give you more power but on mid-range the engine behaviour is not as good as it used to be etc.. just better to get the engine mapped on a proper dyno / road.

My point is not to argue if some dyno is accurate or not, or if some chip gives 15 or 25 hp. Just to point out, that there are "impossible" claims that should be proven before people start believing in such numbers...

The bottom line is, that whatever the "dyno figure" is, most important thing is that the engine works as it should (or even better), and that the owner is happy with the performance.

This is exactly what I'm looking for in the end - a driveable engine. I'm not saying I haven't got a figure in mind that I'd like to see come up on the dyno, but I'd be much happier with a decent graph line for hp and torque.

I've had a modded car in the past which I didn't get mapped etc and it wasn't that satisfying to drive unless you were giving it the beans everwhere......

Hi Ben, There's a fair amount of choice out there and I didn't do a ton of research TBH, but it will do a decent job of running my supercharged M62B44.

The Emerald seems pretty good value for money to me and can be upgraded as they develop new models. I also like the 3 position dash switch which allows complete map changes on the fly.

I went for a standalone ecu because the M62B44 is a little trickier to wire into an E30 than the M60B40 (so I was told) and also because I wanted to get the most out of my set-up and the standard ecu is restrictive (as they all are!).

I had another M62B44 on the dyno it showed 308hp which is alot more plausible .Same ignition advance same amount of fuel.

Hi Gunni, with your experiences of M62B44s on your dyno, what would you estimate my set-up to show?

It's a std M62B44 with full custom manifolds and system, water methanol, Emerald K6 and an ESS VT1 7psi s/c.

Cheers!

Ive got custom manifolds on mine do you think that would make a difference?

My 340 made 286BHP and that was a standard M60B40.
