M60 wiring help.

I gave brought an unfinished m60 e30. It's so hard knowing what's what when you've not done it all yourself.
I'm looking to get my rev counter and temp gauge working.
Also can someone tell me what these wires do?





I'm told this is a converter to make the STD rev counter work, no idea where to start with it.



If someone has a pic of the front of the engine with the drive belt fitted that would be great.

Converter:
red: 12V +
orange: ground
white: rev counter signal from engine
yellow: signal to rev counter
