Need a little help

which engines came in which cars?? im on the look out for a 4.0 for my touring and my plan is to just buy a whole car use what i need and break the rest but which car can i buy??

i know i can use the e32/34 v8 but which of the e38/39's had the 4.0 im guessing the earlier ones but till which year?

im planning on buying an e34 530 manual for the rest of the bits that i need and will simply use the engine from the other car

can anyone clarify this for me??

cheers
Si.

e34 540, should be a M60 B40, nice easy one to work with, Im of the understanding that e32s are slighty different, although not sure

if your buying a 34er 530 then stick with the e34 540!

i was under the impression that the e32/34 engines/ancillaries were basically the same and i could just use the wiring from the 530 on the 4l lump....... hence my question i suppose lol just need that clarification

just want to know what cars to look out for if i can use e32/39/38 aswell then theres more chance of a cheap car pirely because theres more to choose from

also dude im going to make the april 6th dwyb how about you?? text if you like

You can check the "E and M - numbers" here; http://www.unixnerd.demon.co.uk/enumber.html

The engines are the same in E34 / E32 / E31, though minor differences in ancillaries might exists. Nothing major, though.

M62 was introduced around '95 / '96, though it didn't come to all models immediately.

X5 drivers side manifold (normal LHD) is usable also in E30 with pretty small modifications.

Awesome, nice work, all you need for a prop is a E36 328 prop if using the 530 5 speed box

lovely cheers Jonsku

what rads have people used?? obviously i have the m60 rad (2 actually) but i dont want to use it as i dont want to chop the chassis legs up, what other rads fit bearing in mind that this is a drift car so cooling is muchos important and so is my budget

also leccy fan's?? what options have i got there??

Si, im using a E36 M3 rad, its near enough the same size a 540 rad but sits in perfect with no modifications, although im using a 16" pacet electric fan im still having issues after around 4-5laps of pods top track drifting, basically I think the rads not getting enough air flow and after talking to a few people looks like i need to make some access where the bumpers are...

if that makes sense.....

yeh pretty much....... cut holes in the front - let more air in........sounds simples, i saw your thread/question in the other forum, peter is using the m60 rad in his but im not chopping the chassis about dont think he has any temp issues though

is that m3 rad an evo one or not?? any difference in them do you know?

i may run a raised bonnet aswell....

Some people are saying to me raised bonnet will increase temps :? no idea there
however im using a M3 Evo rad, I dont believe there are major differences however the part numbers are different as theres about 4 E36 ones to choose from, ones I was told to go for was either M3 evo or tds, however cant see there being a huge diffence between evo and non evo m3s

There's no idea raising the bonnet, as the "natural air flow" will be reduced. In order to reduce temps, check what E30 M3 DTM car engine bays look like, that is the way you get best cooling..

Basically make sure that only air that gets into the engine bay is through the radiator and the air will get out only below the engine so it has to flow through the rad and around engine.
