Is a an E34 530i suitable for V8 conversion?
Moderator: martauto
I have the opertunity to buy a E34 530i manual. i am keen on doing a v8 conversion to my E30 in a few weeks. i have read many threads on the zone, but wonder weather its worth holding out for a 540i donar car, or is it possible to do a 3.0 conversion and then maybe buying a 4.0 engine as one comes along in the future? i am not even sure if the 530i gearbox will be usable with 4.0 engine? help needed please as i have to let the guy know if im buying the car or not, asap. it is cheap and manual, so i dont know what to do.. any sugestions would help. thanks.

it all depends on how much your paying for the doner?
the power output of the 3.0 engine isn't worth the hassle of the conversion.
but you could do it with the 3.0 with the view of ripping it out once you've found the 4.0.

Buy it if it's cheap, it has basically almost all you need to do the conversion properly (excluding the engine). As the swap will take couple of months you'll have plenty of time to search for B40 engine which is direct bolt-on in place of the 3-liter..
