Right guys I'm at the stage of plumbing the motor in and have come to the obvious problem with manifolds and I'm not sure what route to take.
My main aim is to get the maximum amount of power a manifold can provide with a sensible ish budget
(I'm happy to spend the money if I'm guaranteed the desired outcome)

Do I

Have my s50 manifolds alterd to fit ?
(This will obviously devalue them if I ever want to sell them)

Buy an of the shelf manifold set up ?
If so what are my options as I've heard the likes of fritz bitz who I'm told do a bolt on setup ?

Any other manufacturers people have used ?

Any pics or info on who you got yours from ?
How good the fit is ?
Did it come as part of an exhaust system ?
What did you pay ?

Thanks
Dan

If its power your after then you will want a BTB, which are pricey and you must provide a standard manifold

Nice looking and off the shelf then the fritz is good value for money and well made, manifolds and complete system for about £1500

Sorry to sound silly but what's a BTB ?

What sort of power do they give you ?

Thanks

They make the standard manifolds fit, it's more a case of not loosing power than gaining

Below is a modified BTB, supply them a standard manifold and a shed load of $$ and you will get this back, direct fit for your E30 and will clear an E36-46 steering rack too.

I have no experience of the fritz Bitz but its good value compared to the BTB, by the way an S50 standard manifold is not worth very much so i would not worry if you choose to modify it yourself, decent modified manifolds to fit an E30 will be worth more than a standard S50 manifold.

Out of curiousity, how much power would you lose if you fitted standard M52 manifolds to an S50?
Also would there be any benefit fitting S50 manifolds to a M52 regarding power?

You won't gain much power from fitting the BTB manifold, but more importantly you won't give any away to a badly modded manifold either. Not surprisingly, BMW did a pretty good job at tuning the manifold to the engine, the BTB manifold was made to fit and not lose power.

I don't think anyone has ever tried, but I would think quite a lot. Thr exhaust ports are larger on the S50, meaning you would have a step straight out of the port which won't be good for flow and also cause quite a restriction, and that's before the size of the primaries becomes an issue.

At least this way its a small port to a large one, so no restriction but again, the sudden step won't do any favours.

Im also in need of a manifold solution for my s50 e30.

Seen some great solutions - unfortunately my current ones are not fit for purpose.

I believe the Fritz manifolds for the M50 /52 & S50 were all the same. If that's the case I have one which I may be persuaded to sell that was on my M52 conversion. I can measure the ports to confirm.

I was holding onto it in case I decided to put the M52 into another E30, but it's now definitely going into my E36 Compact.

There is 10mm difference in the M50/S50 design of the Fritz, so fitting one to the other will more than likely cause problems
