Hello all,

I have an S50b32 which was removed as running, but with a bottom end knock. It has been sitting around now for about 3 years and I also have a known good replacement crank.

Without stripping things down, I am assuming the bearings and crank will need swapping out.

How much of a job is this ? I am confident as a mechanic and have put a few simpler engines together (Mini/MX5 etc) but have never dealt directly with the vanos system.

Failing that, can anybody reccomend someone for the job ?. I would rather use an engine builder who has BMW S50 experience if I go down that route.

My M52B28 has HGF and its time for more power anyway.

If if were an M50 or similar I would just try it myself but the S50 is an exspensive engine to destroy by not building it correctly, specially by the time you consider the cost of the new parts (shells, gaskets, arp studs etc).

This engine or another S50B32 is going into my track car and I plan on fitting ARP studs and a brand new oil pump while in there. Are there any other similar suggestions - I am more interested in reliability than anything. Is it worth losing the vanos ? I doubt it but would like to hear any opinions.

Thanks,
Will

I can vouch for Dans engine building skills.

My Donk is a one off. The thing cost me more than I care to add up. He would be top of my list in your posision. 8)
