Ok I've read quite some information already but ofcourse still have questions left. Just to give you guys an idea where the project stands let me give you some initial info:

I've already bought the engine which will be going in my daily driver. This already summarizes the difficulty for this swap: The car should be out of service as short as possible. I'm trying to prep as much as possible.

So back to the questions I have:
1) I'll be running the M20 gearbox (G260) but I'm sure the M20 clutch can't hold the power. So I tried the to fit the dual mass flywheel and clutch of the S50 in the G260 and everything fits. Has anybody tried this combo before? (S50 + S50clutch + G260)
I did see that the release bearing of the stock S50 is higher then the M20 one. So I might need to fit that.

2) I've bought an extra subframe and based on uwe's topic I'd like to modify the angle of the engine rubbers aswell. However than it would also be possible to use the stock M20 engine rubbers. Has anybody used the stock M20 engine rubbers before?

3) Is there any way to keep the stock brake assist without modifying the stock S50 inlet manifolt?

4) Would it be possible to mount the E30 master cilinder on to the Clio brake booster?

Thanks guys!

buy the AKG engine mounts!

why don't you use the 5 speed box which fits to the engine?
they are cheap and you will have no clutch / flywheel issues

if you want minimum downtime, then stop with unproven solutions. Just my experience and opinion.

It's all about money.

AKG = 200 euro's
5-speed box = 350 euro's
driveaxle = 75 euro's
Rear differential = 200 euro's

That's another 825 euro's. I'm not going to track the car in the near future if I will I'll make your ice hockey puck/engine mounts :)

Your first post was more concerned about time, you cant have both. There is a lot more to an S50 conversion than worrying about engine mounts/gearbox/clutch choices. Once youve spent 2 or 3 weeks faffing with odd engine mounts and messing about with E30 gearbox's you will wish you had spent the extra and be working on another part of the conversion :wink:

There will be some useful info for you in this thread - http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... hlight=s50

that was exactly the point I was trying to make.

Save time or save money. Both together are not easy.

5 speed boxes are not £350! It's a 328 box in the end of the day and there are plenty around.

Making the mounts was a whole day flat out. Only did it because had nothing else to do.

You guys are missing the part that I want to prepare as much as possible. There is an running engine in the car at the moment. So preparing time is limitless (not really but you get it) but the actual swap should be done quickly.

I've read through the posted topic but will do it again so I won't miss anything.

About the M3-box there are more costs involved than only the box.

M3 3.0 5 speed box = 328 box = cheap as chips

What are you talking about? I bet you will pick a gearbox up for less than the fiddling with flywheel and M20 box is going to cost you.
AND it's going to work staright away. You have been warned.

You can only prepare so much. Once you drop the lump in, the time starts and a lot a little jobs will pop up you can't prepare for.

Last person who tried to do it quick as possible took about 6 weeks in the end iirc..

There is a day in the wiring alone, more depending on your competance.

Also S50 and cheap don't mix.. Budget options do not work long term. Engine mounts being an example!

I know of a 5 speed m3 gearbox and 328 manual propshaft with new center bearing available for £110. Not expensive unless you need it shipped abroad, but as the advice above its tried and tesed, all bolts straight up.

is the 328 propshaft suitable as it is? Wasn't there not some "front of this and rear of that" mix?

328i prop just requires an e30 centre bearing turned about iirc.

If you turn it round it wont fit the car :hammer:

It stays the same way, the only difference is it goes on the back half of the E36 prop rather than the front half of the E30 prop
