I like taking in engines on conversions, good or bad as if nothing else, they serve as good parts bins for nuts, bolts, clips, loom bits and all that kind of stuff
Engine Conversion Companies

M20 in exchange is probably only worth a max of 200-300 quid. Even if I was to take one in for example, I couldn't give a huge amount for it as if I was to shift it on again or put it into another car, I'd have to give it a full service and everything to make sure its good.

200-300 is better that a kick up the arse. I dont have that much disposal income at the moment, so I am all about saving anyway and anywhere I can. But this is something I have wanted to do for a long time. Even as a kid I was dreaming of customising cars. That ship may have sailed but at least I can still do something to my own car as a hobby.
I may not be able to do this for another 6 months, but who here would be willing to do me an m52 conversion? I am in north London by the way.

I am thinking of sorting out the brakes and suspension first. What brake kit would everyone recommend?
All depends on budget and what you want to achievePaddyEnglish wrote:I am thinking of sorting out the brakes and suspension first. What brake kit would everyone recommend?
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.
Give Dan a shout, he'll give you a rough idea of what a properly done conversion will set you back.
I do M52 swaps for about 750-1500 euro depending on finish a customer wants and if other mechanical parts of the car need attention. That's excluding-parts of course though. Parts can add up quite considerably too, A perfectly done M52 swap will cost the same again in service parts, seals gaskets etc done on engine before it goes in to make sure its perfect, clutches, M20 flywheel bits, suitable diff, few bits and pieces on the car like brake-lines, bushings etc that may need changing.
Braking wise, it depends on what your going to do with the car. An M52 is pretty light so a good set of pads, discs and bits like goodridge lines is fine for a road car really with an M52 once you don't drive like an idiot (The heavier M50 and obviously the S50 puts them at their limits however)
After that, you can use anything from RX7 4-pots, skyline brakes, E38 Brembos etc or get a bolt on kit from somwhere like KMS or if you want to spend silly money altogether, you can check 300mm.de out.
Your wheel choice is a major factor on choosing brakes too of course.

yeah give him a call, his got all the bits sitting around to do one apart for the e36 manual gearbox came out of an autoPaddyEnglish wrote:Oh yeah, I forgot. Do you think he will mind giving me a quote, even though I won't be doing it for a few months?
im confident my m52 will stay with any e36 m3 to a tonne.! as mentioned by dave m3, the m52 in an e30 makes it such a usable car and so much fun to drive. ok, not the fastest car on the road but with a decent pilot you watch what sort of cars you can show up.!!!
funny stuff as none of them see it coming
wet roads make things very interesting indeed, but im an adict for it. i did my conversion myself. i put a few grand down but i sourced everything from all over the shop,, either off here, bmw themselves, local factors ect ect. thats new manifold studs to gaskets, clutch you name it lol.
put it this way i justify the coin i spent even if it can be done for less. i love it
hope this is of some help to you mate

I have a set of 17 inch lenso eagles. Would they take any brake kit?
I have seen a couple of brake kits online. I don't know of they are any good but they are around £600-800.
And you said I can use rx7 and skyline brakes. Do they fit straight on?

Great stuff. Thats good to hear. If I can keep up with an m3 in the beginning, then I would be very happy.e30-dk wrote:im confident my m52 will stay with any e36 m3 to a tonne.! as mentioned by dave m3, the m52 in an e30 makes it such a usable car and so much fun to drive. ok, not the fastest car on the road but with a decent pilot you watch what sort of cars you can show up.!!!
