Morning all,

I hope you don’t mine me coming on here and poaching your knowledge”¦

A nice random one for you”¦ im planning to fit a S50b32 into a classic car. Ive looked at many engine chioices but the BMW lump looks perfect for the relitivly narrow body. We have done many engine convertions into various cars (Clios, TVR’s, Kitr Cars, even an E21) so mounts, exhausts, plumming is all taken care off.

What I need is someone to make an engine harness and remove the EWS, maybe fit the Alpha kit also as the Airbox it too big for this aplication.

Any recommendations.

I have also concidered the S54B32 engine as the block is alloy right? But as the car is only 1050kg MAX we only need (would like) 300-320bhp

Many thanks

Mornin'

Does it have to be the 3.2? I think the S50B30 is slightly simpler on the electrics side i.e. not CAM BUS.

Anyway, Turk on here does looms

The euro S50,s50 b32 and s54 engines are iron blocks. The us s50 is alloy. As above turk can do an s54 loom but you may want to alter/re route it on the car to keep it tidy if you know what i mean. You can also have a generic alpha n map on the ecu if you want, i have no knowlege on how well they work but am told they are good. I have customised my s54 loom to fit my e30 neatly but would not fancy doing it again, lol. I am using the can bus for the e46 ews but its not required if you go have the ews delete option.

This should clear up a few details about the engine characteristics, if you're not sure which one to go for:

great, thanks for the info guys.. maybe the S50b30 might be a better option with single Vanos (didnt realise the B32 was twin vanos)

can you fit the alpha kit to the S50b30?

The engine is going into a 1973 Tvr :)

The b32 twin vanos is not a problem as long as you buy a decent engine, they make more power and are just as easy to wire up as the 3.0ltr and the install/parts required are very similar too. 3.2 FTW

On the S50 engines, the EWS is easy to wire in (about 7 wires or so from memory) so it's nothing to worry about, unless you don't have the matching key, ecu and EWS module.
The S50b32 and S50b30 are almost identical in terms of wiring, only the early B30s don't have EWS - the few B30s after Jan 95 do have EWS.

As ajay said, the twin Vanos on S50b32 is no issue if its been looked after. Get some arp rod bolts fitted and thread lock the oil pump nut whilst the engine is out and you should be good to go.

Thanks, thats good news as id prefer the 3.2 with a tad more bhp. Im based near Milton Keynes so quite central.

So the S50B32..... The link says its 150kg?? That's pretty light for a cast straight 6? Is that quite accurate?
