Was looking to refurbish my AFM.
I then noticed that it did not have the hole to adjust it on the out side.
Now looking at other AFM it looks like a m40 one.
02802203 Bosch on the AFM.
Would a m40 AFM make a difference in a m42 ?

As long as the AFM is from a 318i M40 and not a 316i M40, it will make no difference at all, since the 1.8 M40 and M42 use exactly the same one.
It's not clear from your OP if you require one with a CO adjustment pot. or not. One with a pot. can be used on a car that doesn't require it (i.e. one with a lambda sensor), but one without a pot. can't be used on a car without a lambda sensor, unless an external pot. is added to the wiring loom.
