M40b18 running lumpy!

I've just done a head gasket on my 318i and all went well until I fired her up and she is now running very lumpy, asif it is up and down the revs but the tacometer is not moving, I have literally no idea what this could be! I've search everywhere! Please help!:(

Rev. counter not working is possibly a by product of the work you have done. If you disconnected the battery while you worked, the rechargeable batteries on the SI circuit board in your instrument cluster (assuming you have the version with NiCd batteries), which may have just been clinging onto life with life support from the main battery, may have died, and need replacing.
"lumpy running" is a vague description, but if you mean it won't rev., then check you have plugged in the AFM - easy to overlook. If you mean a lumpy idle, that improves as you rev. it, then carefully check the big convoluted air hose between the AFM and throttle body for cracks and splits.
Otherwise, it's a case of working methodically through willnz's list.
