Hi. Has anyone ever run their m40 on bike carbs?
I understand that new inlet eill have to be fabricated.
I was wondering whats the best bike carbs to go for?
Anything to take into account?
Thanks in advance.
Bike carbs on an m40 questions

Do you have stand alone engine management?
I remember someone in the US using carbs from a 1300 bike
This is a good thread: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showt ... -I-think-)
Personally, I went the Dbilas route as its a manufactured product with far less bugs and works out of the box fully reliable on my daily.

if you intend to run carbs, then you can get a manifold from bogg bros & use mega jolt for the ignition side.
if it's got t*ts or wheels it's bound to be trouble...............prove me wrong.
getting oral sex off an ugly person is like rock climbing.....don't look down ;)

i think he means, if it is possible to use gutted Bike Carbs or throttle bodies as a cheaper way to create an ITB set up (which makes sense for an M40).
i have heard of this being done to a ford 4 cylider using Yamaha R1 TB's as ITBS. It must be possible.
in theory. you could use the lower half of an M40 manifold to keep the inectors in the stock location and then cut the manifold up, but you would have to find a way of joining the Bike TB's to whats left of the manifold.
from what i can see, the R1 TB's come in a bank of 4 and have a TPS that feeds of the Butterfly shaft for all four.
im not sure how it could be done as im not that knowledgeable about it. but it must be possible!

using bike carbs would be possible but would require re-jetting the carbs to suit the engine. most 600cc sized sports bikes, are an inline 4 engine with a 36-38mm or so chokes per carb, the liter bikes will be the 40-42mm area.
When I researched this pre itb i looked at gsxr 600 carbs. They seemed to be the best fit.
Now i would just buy an itb kit from rhd. http://racehead.com.au
