where is the fuel pump roughly located looking underneath the vehicle please guys?

My garage replaced the cam shaft sensor when the car wouldn't start but then found that the fuel pump has a flat spot, stopping the car from starting again - hitting the underside of the fuel tank near the pump gets it going!

It was dark when the mechanic showed me - and the pump is locked again - could anyone describe where it is please??

Aft of the nearside rear wheel; usually, there's a plastic cover concealing it.

Nothing that BMW made with a M40 or M42 engine has the fuel pump anywhere near the wheel arch!
Lift up the rear seat cushion and its underneath a black oval inspection hatch on the RH side.

Hi Brian,

when the mechanic did it, he did give a good thump underneath the nearside rear quarter of the car underneath the petrol tank somewhere.

I'm off out to have a look in a minute now its light

Early E30s had the pump in front of the LH rear wheel arch, but anything with a M40/42 engine is too new. Yours is under the seat.
On tourings and six cylinder saloons the old pump position has been filled with the fuel filter, but on four cylinder saloons, all you will find there is a plain piece of pipe.
