Best oil and filter for m42?

I used castrol 10w/40 in my 318i, was wondering if people use 5w/40 in the 318is? Also what filter? I usually just buy the cheap halfords filters!

You should really use an OEM oil filter. Try BMW for one.
As for oil, I just use castrol 10/40 as it's not too expensive.

Normally i get my oil filter from euro car parts and the oil i use is
