Hi guys, my M40 let go at the weekend so I need a new engine. I have a limited choice of engines over here in NI, pretty much M44 is it actually, people are looking stupid money for M42s.

I know the best option for the M44 is to use the M42 loom and ECU as this avoids the OBDII issues. I can get an M44 with loom and ECU/EWS/ring antenna and key. The question is really how hard is this to splice to the C101. I have all the ETKs and the wiring diagrams for both ends.

1st thing is what do you do with the O2 sensors?

Any help greatly appreciated, I want my touring back!

Where are you Jim? no point in doing mainland engines as the cost of shipping is about the same as the engine! :(

cheers jim, hopefully I can figure it all out, car wiring isn't my strongest subject but as they say, learning on the job is the best way!

I'm considering the m44, well have been for a while now and can tell you what i've found so far.
I already have converted my m40 car to to m42 so i already have ecu, loom, rad, rad cowl, m42 manifold and engine mounts. All of which you will need to address along with m42 inlet and AFM -with this you can ditch the 02 sensor. +you might need the m42 sump too?
To run m44 on m42 ecu and loom you have to fit m42 sensors to the m44 block. I haven't bought an m44 yet, but I know the crank sensor is in a very different place and the m42 one might not reach the m44 mounting at the rear of the block. But you can get longer sensor leads from similar aged beamers. My local garage has a box full all at varying lengths.
