Started it. Oil light (the one with the can and the drip of oil) was on really dim and then gradually came on brighter. I swapped the oil sender/switch (the one under the filter) from the old engine and it did exactly the same...oh dear.
New switch and Compression test next.
Might have to rebuild the old engine in standard form just to get the car back on the road, unless its head gasket then I might do that with engine still in car.
But first is that the right switch for that light (pressure or level?) -edit there is no oil level light on M42 engines.
Also this was after changing the oil and filter, I wonder if it could be a oil service light that needs resetting, because the inspection light is on too?
318i to 318is engine twin cam conversion. Plus m42 2.1 Build

The switch located on the back of the oil filter housing is pressure warning light.
When starting an engine that's been stood its advisable to unplug the coil opacity and crank the engine to build up the oil pressure before starting properly.

It's got good compression. But is blowing oil out the filler (when open) and out the breathers into the throttle body!
I'm gona mess about with the breathers first. Maybe connect valve cover to throttle body and ICV to air inlet.
Next, as a precautionary measure I'm gonna take the oil pick up off and make sure it's not full of gunk. Then it surely has to be the pressure relief valve. Trouble is Haynes manual only refers to accessing it with the front cover off the engine. Ouch! Surely it's easier to get to than that. I have found a brief mention of getting to it with the oil filter housing removed. Anyone done it or know anymore about it?

Not doing very well on the stroker build either! Second crank got lost in the post, so the seller sent me "another one" which is a another bloody stubby nose!

Here's its cast number:

Anyone got cast number number for the correct 'long nose' crank. Either the 88mm or preferably the elusive long nose 90mm!

Hi folks,
It's been a blast, but I have bought another car, so I will be breaking this one for parts. I will post up individual items in the forsale once they are removed. but keep your eyes open for
sparco front and rear strut braces. Mims alloys with good tyres. Orange bucket seat recliner.
m42 head, m42 bottom end, gearbox engine ancillaries, radiator, cowl, new viscous fan, 88mm crank, stainless exhaust, e36 pas quick rack conversion with spacers and hydraulic pipes, bored out throttle body and chipped ecu to match. Eibach springs for a 4pot touring. 4.27 LSD
Plus much more!
