Performance fuel pump

I thought this may be of interest to other M42 owners. I ordered a performance Sytec fuel pump from our friends at Demon Tweeks. The fuel pump I removed was a Bosch one, part number: 0 580 453 053 and the replacement was FSEITP061. This is apparently an E36 M3 pump.

It comes with a new plug which needs the wires soldering to the carrier (the gold bit in simple terms), the black rubber base for it to sit on, a black anti vibration sleeve and of course a new 'sock' filter. Other than soldering the wires no modification was required.

"Performance fuel pump"????? All a fuel pump has to do is be able to provide a sufficient flow rate at the pressure required by your particular engine - written on the side of the fuel pressure regulator. The standard pump can manage this by a margin of many 10's of percent, so unless you've fitted an engine which requires a much higher pressure than your M42, there's no such thing as a performance fuel pump.

Brian I'm aware this however I was in need of a new fuel pump and this is the one I have used. I appreciate what you're saying however in a motorsport or tuning situation people may be interested in using this. The price for a 'standard' pump was not that different to this one and as I will be racing I wanted something such as this. The GT3 cars I look after run detuned versions of the road car engine but we still run "performance fuel pumps" in them to ensure they last.

Not sure with the M42 but if you had an M52 you would get fuel starvation problems with that pump due to the 'sock' on hard right handers

Ok well I got a walbro inline pump for my turbo got it for free!

Which GT3 cars?

The walbro of course has proven it self to do the job nicely to 500+ at very cheap prices, mods are minor.

The stock BMW E30 pump is good for about 400hp on it´s own.

I shan't be seeing 400bhp :p . The standard fit one that was listed from my car from Sytec/FSE didn't fit in any way shape or form, neither did it come with the wiring, rubber base or anti vibration sleeve that this came with so I'm quite happy with it tbh

Which series?

I work for AMR and we supported Beechdean in the British GT / Blancpain series this year.

British GT and Blancpain (sporadically at best) with Fortec. Would have seen you all year then ha! I used to work at JRM with Ben Holyoake.
