Hi

I'm fairly new here and haven't had the e30 long, it's a 318i but I want to do a swap to a 2.5... I thought about having a m50 in but i think it's going to cost too much.

So I think it's going to be just a m20 conversion , has any paid someone to do this? How much did it cost?

Do I need to have the gearbox, diff, driveshaft all changed as well as the rear brakes to discs and the suspension changed to take the extra weight?

Loads more I want to ask but these are the basics, as you can tell , fairly new to all of this...

to be honest there is a lot of merit keeping the M40 as it is dirt cheap motoring, myself and TPS have really good M40 engines+box with everything in our garages and we can't give them away, looking after M40s will cost you nothing. They are also more economical and less to insure than anything bigger.

Of course you have a thirst for more power so fair enough, a M20B25 swap should be fairly easy, Fraggers like PAcerpete and b7 on here will have everything you need and decent quality stuff also.

Hi

One of the main reasons for wanting to swap is that my engine is really lumpy and shaky on idle and its getting on my nerves, and it got me thinking.. I wonder if its worth swapping it ... I actually really like the engine and its peer delivery, but you know what it's like when you get an idea in your head..

I know what you mean. I have a nice m40 I have just taken out my cab , full history and ran like a dream, a little tappy on start up only then and it is a good clean engine, you can have the whole lot for 50 quid if you pick it up, i have a crane to load it in your car also. The donor car is well known to zoners and I bought it off TPS one of the mods in here.

If nothing else it would be a good load of spares.

Just a thought

Hi, that's a very kind offer... I have been giving this a lot of though an I am going to go down the road of sourcing an m42 IS engine if I can and drop that in.

I don't suppose you have one of those knocking around donyou? HA

Cheers

I have a good m42 is engine but not the rest of the bits you need. Prob best to wait and get a full conversion kit from someone breaking one on here.
