Just got myself a 1990 318i Touring and i'm already wondering how to get more power out of it.

First off, bigger throttle body, will a M20B25 throttle body fit straight on or need abit of moding?

Would a 318is exhaust manifold fit the M40 head or is there too much of a difference between the two?

Is there any cams out there from other BM engines that would give a nice difference in livening up the 1.8 like from a newer engine?

The car will be getting a new map so these mods will be catered for with the fueling side of things.

Not a lot can be done to the M40 and even swapping the cam and remapping isnt really worth while when the M42 engine is available for less money.

In that case, don't bother trying to tune the M40, it really isn't worth it. Either save the money for the engine swap or start spending on the handling and braking to get ready for any engine upgrades.

As you have a touring, you should already have the larger front struts and rear disc brakes, but a decent suspension kit, maybe uprated ARBs and some brake upgrades will be money well spent.
