Got my M44 block almost ready for boring and M47 crank is ready to be machined and balanced once I decide what flywheel I'll use.
M42 spare head is ready to be played around with
got the S50b30 and B32 ITBs as well as S50b32 pistons so just have to decide on rods now and what to do with the pistons
Trying to decide what engine management I'll use though...
Sort of brought it down to either...
DTA S60, Haltech or VEMS.
DTA is probably the most expensive (although must double check prices for the others) but wiring it will be a walk in the park over a night or two and its also the management of choice on a tuner I'm on very good terms with so mapping would be favourable.
Anybody have any opinons on which would be best in terms of ease of mapping, wiring and value for money
Car will be a daily driver too so needs to be reasonably refined.
VEMS would be nice considering its what the S42s ran but I'd get DTA and Haltech at a discount since some friends of mine are dealers for them.
Of course I could cheap out and not fit the ITBs and MAP sensor and chip the Motronic to death
2L engine management...

VEMS would work out nicely,
your engine has all the sensors and what not to make it a PnP setup really, at least wiring is dead easy.
The current VEMS firmware has awesome features for ITB´s, injection angle for best possible response.
I´m using it on a S50 with turbo and I expect nothing but excellence in response, drivability and features.

Yeah, been having serious thoughts about the VEMs actually Gunni especially after reading a few of your posts and looking through the S50 build.
Any idea which ECU model would be best for the M42 and ITBs so I can look into costs etc (I can get the DTA ECU fro about 4-450 euro and wiring is very straight forward on it really, Would be disappointed if we didn't have it all wired in and running on a base map in 2 or three nights work)... at least I don't have to worry about vanos like I do on the S54 in my other project
I was only considering the Haltech as I've seen it used in a good few M42s with good results and I have a dealer for it here and haven't looked into them as much as the DTA
Not really interested in the likes of Megasquirt to be completely honest.

M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
