Has anyone with an M52 installed (and preferably M50 manifold) managed to get the heater blower motor out without dropping engine etc?

Would be good to hear how people did it before I get stuck in. Mine stopped working this last week, fortunately it worked long enough to help me bleed the coolant system after installing the M52!

Cheers,
Joe

Well not sure if Magpie was taking the Mick but just got round to this today. Only took 30mins or so to extract the motor.

It’s well and truly seized and whilst I managed to get it spinning at full speed with some WD40 love it won’t turn at lower speeds so replacement required !

I managed it with m50 in my 316i... I replaced the blower to find out it was actually a wiring fault in the DIY loom harness swap which was done by previous owner of the engine... soooo just be sure it is the blower before you do get stuck in there!
Bearing in mind you get some drop by just loosening front arms off and it drops down too

See my last comment above, done and dusted a couple months back :D

Motor was seizing up and heater resistor was falling apart. Replaced both and good as new...

Ha! I should’ve had my glasses on! (I don’t use any)
Glad to hear it’s sorted anyway :)

@joeyb, any hint/trick to do that ?? I'm in the process to do the same, it does not look easy. A gigantic wiring loom is on its way.

If you have an M52 intake manifold you may just about be able to work around it, but the M50 intake is more difficult, I usually remove the M50 intake to give better access, don't forget to remove the wiper motor and clean/regrease it while your in the area

I assume it's an M52 intake, I bought the car when it was already converted, is there any easy visible way to tell if it is ?

Think I'll hijack this thread to post some update, as there aren't many detail information about this job on the web. Common suggestion is to remove the intake manifold to access the fan motor. I just managed to remove the cover in the bulkhead, there may be enough space to pull the motor out.

Move the wiring loom plastic holder aside, more space to work.

Sorry never saw this until now, I have an M50 intake on my M52 and it was still do-able as you've now found out :-)
