Hi guys, as it says, am getting m50 block bored and deck cleaned up, m52 2.8 crank linished, after market H beam rod gudgeons resized to suit after market pistons with wrist pins (both rods and pistons within 1gram of each other, I did weigh and they are), 240mm m52 clutch/flywheel kit (supposedly balanced), so while it's at the machine shop get the balancing done? totally street driven car with the occasional blast, after some opinions please. The old days with chevy/fords, we balanced everything cause we exceeded factory redlines, thanks.

There is no need to balance the crank unless you are having it machined, I had an M52B28 one done and it didn't need much more than 1g taken off it in total, having the flywheel/clutch cover balanced is pretty cheap so worthwhile IMO as its an aftermarket/unknown quality

When building an engine, I would always get the crank and flywheel balanced together.
Will you be using a torque plate when you get the block machined? I'm thinking of buying one from the States and renting it out

I agree with Dan here, BMWs own stuff is really well ballanced from the factory, and you wouldn't need to have it done if just using that, but the flywheel and cover may be a good idea.
It wouldn't hurt to bolt it all up to the crank and the front vibration damper and have the whole lot done. That shouldn't be too expensive.
