Got my m54 inlet cam for my 3.0 conversion .
It says you have to machine 5 mm off the end of the cam .just won't to check before I do this .theres a Torx head screw in the end of the cam ,does this have to be removed? Reason I ask is on a m52 cam there's a small oil hole that feeds the vanos gear .noticed the oil hole in the cam is closer to the end on the m54 just wondered by removing the screw does this allow oil into the vanos gear . ?

Yes, its still OK
Leave the torx bolt in place, so the position of the gear remains the same.
Machine it down and some of the head comes off too, so the actual torx part goes quite shallow. Its a tad more than 5mm, I matched it to an M52 cam with verniers.
