Swapping ECUs...

I'm hoping someone has some advice/any ideas. I finished my M50 non vanos swap last year and have been running on the 402 ECU since. A few months ago I bought a chip on here from speedtouch, unfortunately I didn't realise the chip would only work on the 405 ECU, so I kept the chip to fit into a 405 when I eventually would get one. I've now fitted said ECU and it just over fuels like crazy, idles very lumpy, and is undriveable. I'm assuming the ECUs aren't interchangeable, is this right? Or is there any wiring I can change to get the 405 to work? I've tried the 405 with both the standard chip and uprated one. I ended up paying quite a fair amount for the ECU, so i'm a little bit annoyed
